Tom Cruise co-pilots helicopter for Top Gun 2 preparations

He’s been busy this year filming and promoting a string of blockbuster movies.

And aged 55, Tom Cruise shows no sign of slowing down after being spotted having another helicopter lesson in London on Wednesday.

The Hollywood action man looked cheerful as he disembarked the single engine Eurocopter AS350 Écureuil – commonly know as a Squirrel and widely used by the RAF.

Dressed in relaxed clothing, the Mission Impossible star donned a wool sweater over a white t-shirt with blue jeans.

Sat in the cockpit holding the pilot controls, the helicopter landed safely although it is not clear who was flying the chopper.

Rushing out to greet the air traffic controllers, Tom’s pearly whites were on full display while his muscular frame carried him across the tarmac.

Donning a pair of all black Nike trainers, Tom dashed across the landing pad after another fun day’s flying practice.

Tom is facing a busy schedule, having confirmed the Top Gun sequel in May, when he was promoting The Mummy.

Filming is believed to be taking place later this year and it is slated for release in 2019.

Action hero Tom is the only actor who has been confirmed for the movie sequel and production staff are remaining tight-lipped about the plot of the new film.

He was spotted preparing to film the movie’s long-awaited sequel to the Eighties cult classic.

The Hollywood star has been learning to fly the helicopter in training for the role alongside his famous fighter jet position.

The action movie star wore his hair closely cropped and looked in a hurry following his flight practice.

Top Gun’s success 31 years ago helped solidify Cruise’s star some three years after his breakout role in Risky Business.

Starring as the cocky Maverick, alongside his wingman Goose – played by Anthony Edwards – the star became a Hollywood sex symbol as the fast talking, faster flying fighter pilot.

It looked like the crew were ready for anything to happen as Tom also passed an ambulance en route to the flying machine.

When the actor reached the helicopter he shook hands with the men who would be helping him fly the vehicle.

While one man held the doors open for him, Tom chatted to the group and motioned with his hands.

The long-awaited sequel to 1986’s action film Top Gun will be called Top Gun: Maverick.

‘I didn’t want a number, you know what I mean?’ the 54-year-old told Access Hollywood while in London on the promotional trail for his current summer thriller, The Mummy. ‘You don’t need a number.’

The A-list stalwart hyped the film in saying, ‘We’re going to have the same tone we did in the first one … aviators are back, the need for speed.

‘We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one – it’s going to be in the same vein as the first one, but a progression for Maverick.’

Cruise played coy when asked about who would be co-starring with him in the sequel, as the original featured Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis and Anthony Edwards, with Tim Robbins and Meg Ryan in the extended cast.

The new Top Gun film has even got the seal of approval from Val Kilmer, who played Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazanski in the military movie.

In a Reddit AMA, the actor wrote: ‘They are being understandably quiet about the script, but I am sure it’s going to hit every note it’s supposed to after all these years!’

Val’s character in the original film was Maverick’s rival, but the pair eventually learned to work together.
